Australian Institute of Health and Welfare Report on Youth Detention Population in Australia 2023

This report presents information on the youth detention population in Australia during the period between June 2019 to June 2023.

Among the 812 young people in detention on an average night in the June quarter 2023, the majority were male (89%), aged between 14–17 (80%) and 59% identified as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
