An assessment of 15 out of the 19 socio-economic targets as committed to in the National Agreement on Closing the Gap.

The target of reducing the rate of over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in out-of-home care by 45% by 2031 is not on track to be met. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children continue to be over-represented in the child protection system at a rate of 57.2 per 1,000 children aged 0–17 years placed in out-of-home care in 2023.
