Their Futures Matter: A new approach

Their Futures Matter: A new approach is an independent review of the out of home care system in NSW. The review was commissioned in response to the growth of the out of home care population and continuing poor outcomes for the most vulnerable children and families.

The review concluded that despite a substantial increase in government funding, the number of children and young people in out-of-home care has doubled in the past decade and continues to rise. It found that the system is failing to improve long-term outcomes for children and to curb the devastating cycles of intergenerational abuse and neglect, noting that outcomes are particularly poor for Aboriginal children, young people and families.
