Australian Council of Heads of Social Work Education

Submission to the Australian Universities Accord

This submission from the Australian Council of Heads of Social Work Education focuses on our shared concern about the impact of poverty on social work students, particularly when undertaking compulsory placements, in a profession for which there is a shortage of qualified practitioners.

Recommendations include an immediate restructure of how higher education student placements are conceptualised and funded in order to address significant mental health issues resulting from student poverty associated with compulsory unpaid placements.
