The Australian Child Maltreatment Study (ACMS) 2023

The prevalence of child maltreatment in Australia: findings from a national survey

Child maltreatment — physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, and exposure to domestic violence — is a major public health challenge.

The primary aim of the Australian Child Maltreatment Study (ACMS) was to determine the prevalence of each of the five types of child maltreatment in Australia - physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, neglect and exposure to domestic violence.

Findings suggest that physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, and exposure to domestic violence during childhood are common in Australia.
